“As the Governing Body of Softball in the U.S., ASA/USA Softball is honored to partner with our Armed Services to establish a Military Championship for military installations and units below the Military Branch level,” said ASA/USA Softball President and retired Major in the United States Marine Corps Phil Gutierrez. “This is a natural partnership as the Armed Services Softball Team annually participates in the ASA/USA Softball Men’s Slow Pitch Class ‘A’ National Championship, plus many members of our leadership throughout the country are military veterans who continually celebrate the accomplishments of the military and proudly support their efforts to keep us safe and free.”
In order to be eligible for the Men’s Military Slow Pitch Championship, all players must be assigned to their respective military base/joint base/installation. Players must also have their military ID cards and must have active, guard, reserve, dependent or retiree status (retirees and dependents limited to three per team). The Men’s Military Championship play will be based on the Men’s Class B Slow Pitch division rules with each team allowed six home runs per game, after which each home run is counted as an out.
“What an honor for us to host a Military Championship for military members and their families,” said ASA/USA Softball Executive Director Craig Cress. “ASA/USA Softball takes pride in the relationship we’ve established with our Armed Forces and look forward to continuing that tradition as we host our first-ever Military Championship.”
