Crine tops Canseco in “The Battle of the Titans” Home Run Derby

July 11, 2012. Los Angeles – Team Miken’s Denny Crine, a member of the Long Haul Bombers, toped 6-time MLB all star Jose Canseco in the “Battle of The Titans” Home Run Derby, Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

It was a tight, two round home run derby, but Crine’s 16 points, edged out Canseco’s 15 points. Both hitters clubbed massive homers, some estimated to be 450 feet and climbing. Crine was quick to point out the real winner was the ALS Society. “Each gold ball we hit was worth $250 dollars to the ALS society, I’m happy to hit some homers to help out. It’s obvious, Jose has plenty of power, a great swing and was a tough competitor.”

Afterwards Canseco was quick to praise Crine. “Denny is a softball legend, with the smooth swing all of us would love to have, to be with-in one point of Crine tonight was amazing. Believe me when I say, Denny Crine is one of the best in the world at what he does”.

The home run derby was followed by the California Collegiate League All-Star Game. Many former MLB greats were on hand including Steve Yeager, Jay Johnstone, Kenny Landreaux and Steve Garvey. Garvey was impressed by both Crine and Canseco. These sluggers put on a spectacular show, it went down to the last pitch and many of the blasts were simply epic, it felt like you were watching a scene from the movie “The Natural. “

The charity event was presented by MLB Urban Youth Academy, California Colligate League, Golden West ALS Association and Natural Balanced Pet Foods. The site was the MLB Urban Youth Academy Ballpark in Los Angeles.

Highlights of the Ultimate Home Run Derby will be featured on the national TV show, “Softball 360” later in July.
